I never attended MLPS; I am a 1970 graduate of Campion Jesuit High School. I'm just posting this note on your page for a couple reasons.
First, I am curious about MLPS, about which I know next to nothing. Until I visited this message board, for example, I hadn't realized MLPS was co-ed. In which dorm(s) did girls live and in which dorms the boys?
[It just occurs to me that MLPS probably changed the names of many of the buildings from the names they had at Campion, and I'd be curious also to know what names were given the various buildings. During Campion days, the big dorm on the southeast corner of the quadrangle was named Lucey Hall, which was named after a donor who was the father of two Campion alums, Pat Lucey (who became Wisconsin's governor for several years)and Greg Lucey (who became a Jesuit priest and was, ironically, the head of Campion when it closed). The WWI-era dorm next to the chapel was called Marquette Hall (after the French Jesuit, Fr. Marquette, who "discovered" the Mississippi River). The building between the dining hall and the swimming pool was called Lawler Hall (which was an administation and Jesuit residence bldg and was named after the man who donated the land for the school). The dorm north of the dining hall and west of the main classroom building (which itself was called Campion Hall) was called Xavier Hall.]
Were all the buildings in use at MLPS? What use was made of Lawler Hall? Did that become a dorm? How many students were there?
I also understand that MLPS built a new music building. Where was it located? Do you have any pics of it?
And who owned and operated MLPS? Was it affiliated with the Missouri Synod?
A second reason for this message is that I thought some of you might be interested to know a bit more about Campion and its history and those of us who tread its grounds before you. If so, you can check out the site at www.campion-knights.org.
Final note: PLEASE, PLEASE address any response to this msg by sending it to my real e-mail address, which is clamal@mindspring.com If you post a response to the ClassMates.com board (which I think, in my very personal opinion, is a bit of a rip-off), then pls also send a copy to me at my personal e-mail address.
Thanks, all
